Resolved Question: Help me pick a dog for my family.?

We are an active family who lives in Madison, WI. We have a large yard... work from home. Have two boys ages 13 and 6. I am open and interested in a dog like a goldendoodle or labradoodle. We have watched Dogs 101 on Animal Planet and my husband liked what they said about Cavalier King Charles. We liked English Bulldogs but we have a lot of stairs in our house and I worry about them with their hips. We had a little dog once, a long time ago, but not crazy about that little but we are interested in a medium to medium large dog.... lab or golden retrieve being the largest. Any advice?
